I purchased my first mustang on Monday! It is a 2002 GT with 56,000 miles. I will post some pics in the near future. I went directly to the local muffler shop and had 2-40 series flow masters installed. I will be using it for leisure and would like to make it as powerfull as possible with out harming the engine. I would like some recommendations on mods that I should install. If you could list the mods in order of importance, it would help me out.

I was thinking of ordering this for a CAI--> http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=57-2519-3
If there is one that better performs and looks better, please point me in the right direction.

I was talking to Nitrous express about getting a system installed as well. What do some of you experts think about this? Is it possible to harm the engine with 50-100 hp shots. I like the idea of pushing a buton to activate the nitro instead if it activating at a certain RPM. What do you recommend?

Thanks,
Andy

I have that intake! it took like 10 minutes to put in and its nice black color blends into the engine bay and doesnt stick out like the chrome ones, but i also bought it cause it was only 40$ from my friend who s/c his GT,lol.

You should get
Gears
Intake
throttle body 70mm if na i think right guys?
plenum
pullies
short shifter
mid pipe x or h whichever you like the sound better that couple of horses isnt worth having a sound you dislike a bit
some fat tires and control arms to get it to grip nicely
a chip and dyno tune

Thanks for the info? What brands do you prefer?
Gears - Ford (FRPP) or Motive - I have Motive 3.90s. (Don't get Richmond, they whine)
Intake - K&N FIPK
throttle body & plenum - BBK, probably. Don't really know since I haven't done that yet.
pullies - March or Steeda
short shifter - I have MGW, but any of the big three Steeda, Pro5 or MGW are great.
Cat Back exhaust & mid pipe x or h - Flowmaster, MAC, Borla or Magnaflow
Chip and Dyno tune - go with whatever your local Dyno guy is familiar with.

All that should get you to 280-300 RWHP, I would think.

I've never noticed it popping out of 2nd.
Sounds like an adjustment problem. Do you have an aftermarket shifter? If you do, make sure that are NOT using the stops on the shifter -- the 3650 tranny has internal stops. I took the stops completely out of my MGW. (As they recommended in the installation instructions.)

My Gt is an 02 and I have the K&N FIPK on it but I am going to sell it either at this weekends NMRAs down in Bowling Green or throw it out there to let you know I'm going to be selling it. Its been on less than a month. Yes its a good piece and I like it BUT it would as good as an intake as say.......a.......PROCHARGER, which is what I'll be opting for and hopefully be ordering this week :happyhapp

Well you can get the K&N intake from me if you'd like. I only paid like $210 or maybe it was $228 I cant remember, I can find the receipt later. But I'd be willing to see it for like $175 or so. Its been on the car less than a month. Im going with a blower and wont be needing it.
You can get the Accufab throttle body and plenum for $399 at www.rpmoutlet.com. But you can get the Accufab throttle body and a different plenum for $299. Thats what I'll be doing. Getting a C&L plenum and an Accufab 75mm throttle body. And you can get a Diablo Predator for $399 pretty much anywhere. And I only paid $150 for my FRPP 3.73s and got them installed for $150 so a total of $300 bought and installed.

Let me know on that intake. Its new pretty much and looks great and I wont be needing it. Also I will be having a month old UPR O/R x-pipe too after I get my long tubes installed. Let me know

Im new to the forum, came from ls1tech but my sister has a 2002 GT 5-speed that she loves. It is occasionally autocrossed but is a daily driver and her warranty just ran out so she has not put many mods on until now. I put a K&N intake on for her last birthday and she just turned 21 so i was going to get her a set of flowmaster 40 series mufflers, but mustangs aren't my expertise so i was wondering if any of yall could tell me the sizes of the pipe going in and out of the muffler...2.5 inch in and 3 inch out possibly? Also, what is the whole layout of the exhaust? Thanks a lot guys and bare with my stupidity as i am a bowtie man  but still respect the stangs, i do love cobras especially. :laughlitt

-- save the money from the Flows and get her a set of 3.73 or 3.90 rear gears instead. I prefer Dynomax mufflers over Flows though either may have the dreaded 2K rpm drone. Or, buy Taylor battery relocation kit w/#1 or maybe #2 cable and move the 35lbs+ of battery to trunk. Gears, by far, biggest gain by SOTS meter (that's 'seat of the skirt').

she really wants exhaust, but thanks man...and my experience with camaros and pickups is that flowmasters give you horrid low-end torque. Would that problem still be evident even though theres only mufflers? And since this is on a new page, what is the whole exhaust layout and in and out size pipes on the mufflers? Does anyone know where i could order a set of just mufflers that would replace the stock mufflers for cheap and fairly quickly (installation done by myself)?? thanks big time

I've got 270 ft-lbs at 2K RPM

The exhaust on her car 2.5 inch going in and coming out of the mufflers. If you want to know what the car will sound like before you buy anything, check out www.mustangexhaust.com . They have a lot of soundclips from numerous combinations.

Sorry, Bluestreak -- you know a lot more about stangs than me, but I've caught you on this one! :)
The enter/exit size of the stock 2002 GT muffs is 2.25". I know cause I just had Flowmaster 40s welded in a few months ago.
