03 cobra ABS comes on and off

1717 Views 10 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  monkeymanx3
This has been going on randomly now for the passed 500 miles or so. The ABS light comes on for a few minutes then comes back off. Only thing that I can think of is that my back rotors are squeaking and it might be triggering? Don't know if that has anything to do with the abs? Any ideas please let me know.

It could be the abs module. My abs would go on and off randomly until now when it is on all the time. The only time the light will go off is when it is very cold out. The wiring in the module comes lose after so many years. It's not that big of a deal to me, but I will eventually get the module fixed.

yeah, either an ABS sensor, the module or low brake fluid will trigger the light
how many miles on alt?

my 03 has been thru alot..if you dont know 328,000 miles and its 90% original.only time ive seen mine flicker is when having charging issues..

loose grounds ,dirty terminals...ect

ive had alot of other strange issues related to terminals, with electrical freak outs...all the time it was issue...if not alt or battery

ABS sensors would be the one in the differential and as for the module how would i detect if there's something wrong with it and how do i find it? The brake fluid is nice and clear and to the max level.

Currently my cobra has 63k miles and I believe the alternator is OEM i have never swapped it out. As for battery and terminals i have a Yellow top optima battery and the terminals seem to be in great shape. This only began to occur since i took my car on its first 300 mile trip 600 round trip and once i got back the light began to do this. Prior to this i did the differential fluid and gasket swap because of a leak. When i did this the i removed the ABS sensors but did put them back in place same as they were.

you need a special device that reads the ABS sensors, yes this is something you'll need to take to a mechanic to figure out which one is malfunctioning and have it replaced...if the module is shot then they will be able to tell you that as well...I know I have the exact problem and need to replace the module first..so I just drive without ABS for now

Will be taking it to the mechanics soon , will they be able to read the sensors even if the light is off at that moment?
