I'm heading off to college in SoCal this coming August in my 04. Coming from MN, that's a really long trip (2000 mi one way) through some of the hottest parts of the nation in the heat of summer.
So, what should I be doing to prep the car for going the distance? Belts, hoses, radiator flush ... etc?

Well when was your last tune up? Those never hurt. Change oil, coolant flush, tires if need be, top fluids off the general maintenance

Last general tune-up was a year ago (~7000 mi) where they did all of the things that you mentioned. Do you think that it's worth another couple hundred to get everything looked at?
