05 GT kills 05 GTO

not on the drag strip, but on the autocross course.
There were two Goats there, and I think they were both on street tires, same as me. My fastest time of the day was a 46.136 and the fastest of the two goats was 47.4sumtin.
The outcome wasn't a surprise to me. GTO's suspension is so soft and the steering isn't as driver friendly as the GT's.
I was amazed that I was the first to autocross an 05 GT in my area. Being in the North Texas area SCCA event, I figured someone would have done a GT before me. When I heard that mine was the first at such an event, I felt I had to represent.
Overall I placed 9th out of 17. I blame that on learning the car and getting comfortable with a driving style. There is always next season though.

congrats man.... holding it down on something else than a drag strip :eyepoppin
Good Job :smoke: You would think that the GTO's IRS would have done better with all the twisty turns.
Very nice job, not many autocross stories on this forum.
I was so ready to Throw uip a BS... but on an Autocross... the Mustang Definately has an advantage. IRS cant overcome the extra 450lbs.
nice kill
what other cars were out there?
there was a viper and a handfull of M3's and a coupler of Porsche Carrera's. lots of Evo's and WRX Sti's. My friend in his 05 Mustang V6, a coupler of earlier Mustang V6's, some formula 440's.
the first time to autocross the GT and my times were dangerously close to a Trans Am's times, and I believe they were on race tires.
some other cars representing out there...Miata's, SRT-4 (slow on twisties), Fiero GT, 4 or 5 05 Corvettes, 66 Mustang, Geo Metro (HA! that was funny). the list of cars was very diverse.
I think I attached a picture of me in the staging lane.

Very cool man. I took my 05 gt out for autocross about 3 weeks ago. My first time, and it's first. I was far more limiting than the car. I found that it pushes like crazy when you hit a turn too fast. I had a blast, and will be back.
Any mods? What class were you running?

I discovered the same thing. I was really surprised how hard it was pushing hard in the corners. I was used to racing a turbo FWD and those you can keep some power in the turns and pull it through when it starts understeering.
but, I learned towards the end of my last run that you can rotate the car around by giving a little bit of gas and a little bit of brake (left foot braking). it's a tricky maneuver but it works when you do it right. practice.

no mods. I ran the street tire class. anything can run in that class as long as it is stock and on street tires. then the times are indexed to reveal the fastest time for the group.
normally, the car would have been in F stock. but, i think that might change in SCCA next year.
Nice tip. I'll have to practice that a little. I found coming in slow and rotating with the throttle once the weight shifted worked pretty well. I think my next mod may be Steeda swaybars front and back, to help with it a little. This is my daily driver, so I won't go too far just for the occaisional cone slaughter. I was running Fstock novice on street tires. Since the race I've added an intake and tune, and I was wondering where that will put me.

Oh, BTW, there are pics in my gallery
Cool! Nice going! I'd like to try that! Now I'm driving my car modded for turning on dragg strips... which is fun too...

Anything around Cincinnati...??
check out www.scca.org it should have a link to the local chapter, who probably runs every month or two. have fun, get sideways

Don't laugh too much at the Geo! Ford has a kit for the Focus that lets you turn it into a rear wheel drive and drop in any mod V-8 What if that Geo had the LS1 in it? I would especially like to see one with the little skateboard wheels they all seem to have. Ultimate sleeper!

It says it is page 190 on their catalog, but I am viewing it in .pdf format

Oops, the bottom of the page says 188. Imagine how you would feel when that Focus lights up and sounds like a 5.4 and you watch it through your windshield, not your rearviews.
I know this Geo didn't have anything more than what it came with from the factory. Except about 100,000 miles, some dirt and three passengers. it even had some balloons tied to the antenae. They were just out there having fun. Here is a picture of it.

if there is a V8 sandwiched in there, it is news to me. LOL
around here, S10's with the V8 conversion were popular for a while. other than that, your chances of seeing or racing on the street, a Focus or Geo with a V8 in it are pretty slim.
I will keep my eyes open for them though.
