06 GT crappy dyno numbers

Had the chance to dyno my car today at dyno days. I had the worst numbers of all V8s there. Most were the 5.0s but there were 2 other S197s which put down 310 and 312 mine was 292 hp and 311 torque.

I can't understand such a discrepancy in the numbers. The guy that put down 310 had an O/R x but said he didn't have his tune yet. WTF!!
So I guess cams and long tubes are in my future to get where I wanna be.

292 is good for basically only having a 93 oct tune and a CAI. Nothing wrong with those numbers. Those other cars are pretty strong. Really strong actually. Are the numbers SAE and on a dynojet? Dyno racing is stupid anyway. Fun factor, 1/4 and 1/8 times is where it's at. That and stomping a chevy. And for some folks, going around corners is where it's at. You'll probably gain 15-20rwhp with longtubes and O/R pipe. Big power is gonna come from a blower or nitrous. If your one of those dudes hell bent on being NA, that's cool, but you're gonna pay a lot to inch it up. There will also be a wall at about 370rwhp on a NA build and that's throwing the book at it damn near.
Yes, SAE Dynojet.
I went in knowing that I wasn't going to win because there were some great cars there. I wanted a baseline to work with and it was for a good cause (Toys for Tots)

I am not Hell bent on N/A just realistic that a blower ain't gonna happen. It's just too much of a stretch for me to plunk down that kinda money at one time.

I am not looking for the Holy Grail 7-800 H.P. I would be happy around 350. Some of those cars on the Dyno were wicked but mines a DD and to drive a 700 H.P. car in commuter traffic in the rain would just not thrill me:nono:
For a tune and intake and axlebacks I think that sounds about right for normal GT. Those are actually really respectable numbers, so I wouldn't be upset about them.
That's a lot better than my 05. I only put down 280 hp and 300 tq with CAI, 93 tune, shorty headers and o/r x-pipe. Mine was an auto though.

Hey man i was the guy with the o/r x, at dyno days, i also had CAI and flow masters exhaust, i didnt pull a 310 though i pulled a 304 and 337 ft lbs torque, tune is next for sure.
Yeah I see my mistake now. I was thinking of the difference and typed what I was thinking LOL.

This goes to my point though. 12 HP from just an x pipe and no tune? I would think with a custom tune it would pick up at least 10 more HP, according to the talks I overheard at the shop, but I really have no idea. If I did off road x I would still be behind and already have the tune. All things being equal I'm just trying to figure such a difference.

20rwhp can be a variable straight from the factory. Xpipes do make a tad bit of power.

Also..If your an auto trans and they were 5 speeds you'll lose a few horsepower to them.

Yeah if i remember correctly yours was an automatic right? well mine is a 5 speed therefore that would automatically give me a touch more hp than you. I really wouldn't be to concerned about it man, your car gave good power and pulled hard, the only reason your concerned is because it's not what u were expecting so naturally u think something is wrong,
Yes mine is auto.
Please don't mistake that I love my Mustang. I have wanted this for a loooong time and I have some things I want to do to it to make it better. The car is my DD and I would not want more than about 350 HP. That being said I am trying to learn the variables and figure my next step. I had no idea that an x pipe would actually gain 12 HP. I know what it says in the magazine ads but didn't think it would be that close in real world situations. I don't really like the raspy xpipe so may go H. Thanks for all of the input it has helped a great deal.

If you are going to chase 350rwhp NA be prepared to spend money.

Yep, I fully agree with SheizaSoSay here... Hell, my '07 dyno'd at only 263 whp when stock and then I spent a shi% load of cash just to hit 355 whp wanting to stay NA. Once you hit it, you will definately want more, so just be patient (lol) and save your your cash and go FI. :bigthumbsup
Don't want to seem like an assh$#e here, but I am having a hard time with a relatively stock S197 getting around 300 whp :?: on the dyno. Just mt 2 cents...!!
OK

Well for a auto I would say with your MODS your in the top 30%.
Meaning your car responded well to the MODS you list.
I have seen CAI Tune, Cams and Exhaust get 305 HP and 315HP.
A 10HP seperation from one car to the next. Same MODS same Tune same year.

I would say a set of Cams can get you to the level you want and stay within a good budget.

I feel ya! I keep booking at bullit's 304/337 rwhp/tq and thinking hp is strong but 337rwtq has gotta be off.

back to the OP, echoing what others have said -- those are actually pretty good numbers, a bit on the high side perhaps for a car that is nearly stock ; dyno might have been a little "happy" that day, it is not an exact science

moral to the story: don't believe all the marketing materials with their HP increase claims
I'd say those are pretty solid numbers for a tune and CAI, especially since the car is an auto. You got a good one ;)

There's nothing wrong with making big steam with your DD. I use mine as a DD I just make sure the TC is on when it gets wet outside and it get a lot of time in neutral when I get stuck in traffic. I hate driving the wife's mini van. She won't let me put nitrous in the van, push to pass.
