I ordered a chrome dipstick from my former parts place couple years ago and i got not only a chrome dipstick but also a tube. (tube was free - dipstick was incorrect) Here's a few pics. Im not sure its incorrect tube. I tried to remove mine tonight to match it up & couldn't get mine out. The problem is the prior catalog only listed '65 - '68 289 or 302 dipstick 19" long. Other catalogs had several listings for different ones between '65 - '68. (hi-po & non hi-po.)

The chrome tube is approx 12 1/4" long. Has a slight bend in it approx in lower middle. The dipstick is 23 1/2" (entire length) the actual usable dipstick part (without handle) is approx. 20 3/4" long.

The mounting bracket is much shorter then mine is. My bracket is about 4" long. The chrome one, the bracket is only 1 3/4" long and that includes the round part that goes around the tube. The bolt hole is right next to the tube, when installed.

If someone maybe has this set up, it would be nice to know what car/engine it goes to so i could find someone to give it to or something!

Also, does the tube come right out after removing the bolt from the bracket?? I pulled & pulled and it didn't want to come out so i decided until i get some info from you guys, im not going to damage mine. :nono:

Thanx.

It should fit on any of them...it looks just like the one I have for my 67. The original dipstick tube will be pressed into the timing cover very hard...I doubt you'll be able to pull it out. I actually never could get mine off my original timing cover, but I was replacing the timing cover anyways and ended up getting a new dipstick and tube.

Which, by the way, I had to sand down the part of the tube that goes into the timing cover and got a little too aggressive with my sanding and it fits in a little too easily now, so I'd gladly take that tube if you need a good home for it :cooldude:

Im glad i didn't try too hard to get it out. Just wanted to compare the tubes.

Mine bolts up to the front of the block...almost under the left side (pass. side) thermostat housing bolt. There is no place on the Alternator bracket to mount it to. But i have TE & a different Alt. bracket so maybe that's why my tube bracket is different.

The dipstick is still different then mine tho. Its 2" longer & the low & add lines are way off. I use the dipstick sometimes. I engraved new lines on the back of it :yup:

Thanx for answering another unknown!
