Hi all! I am looking for help with info on the original specs of the suspension of my '65 GT. Also some input as to what I should do as far as rebuilding the suspension. The car is now completely apart and ready to be built. Car is original and I would like to drive it someday! But right now I need some help to figure out where to start. The bodywork is complete so I'm good there. Looking forward to talking to people that have gone through this already! Thanks, John

There must be other folks who have a 65 GT-350 out there.
Shelby American GT 350 project engineer recommended 2 degrees positive caster, 1 degree negative camber and 1/8 " toe in for all years of Shelby Mustangs.
You can play with settings for different applications.

For my power steering car I used 3.5 degrees caster to make it easier to keep it straight on the freeway. It still turns like it is on rails. I also used -1.5 degrees camber. No ill effects on tire wear.

Thanks Paul,
Unfortunately, my car is the factory GT, not the GT 350. Just the same I'm excited to rebuild this car to mostly original, but i'm not sure where to focus on after completeing the body. Any suggestions?

Hello. :) :welcome
Your front coil springs could have been either the 1413lb or the 1491lb springs. The Dearborn K codes seem to gotten mostly the 1413lb springs, unless they were convertibles, which almost exclusively the 1491lb springs. The 1413lb springs got a red stripe painted on them at the factory and the 1491lb springs got a brown stripe, so, if you can gently clean up the old ones, you might find remnants of the paint stripe. The front shocks on the 65 K codes were the heavy duty shocks with the number C4ZF-18045-E stamped on them. The rear leaf springs on the fastbacks were also the heavy duty springs with a rating of 650lbs. You would also have the 13/16 front sway bar. This stuff, called the 'Special Handling Package', was standard on K codes, and was included in the GT package on 'A' code cars. The suspension geometry was the same on all 65 Mustangs, whether they had the Special Handling Package or not. :)

Thank you Veronica, your info on the spring ratings is helpful. I will try to find the painted stripe!:yelpleased:
By the way, my Fastback GT has the original A code with the Pony interior, and a 4-speed. What's your opinion on changing the Hp when the motor gets done, and should I bother to change the rear end to a posi/limited slip combo?
