I have a 65 Coupe 289 with Autolite 4100 4 barrel carb. When I go uphill doing 80 MPH the carb spits a couple of times. Can anyone guess at what is going on?

Hello cptnzod,
We could use a better understanding of "spits"

If you are saying she skips a bit - -
I would guess a couple of things.

I would - - try
1. - some carb cleaner
2. - Double check the dwell on the points
3. - Next I would think it could be a float level in the carb.

It is hard to say what is going on here because I could use a better
description of the trouble.

It could be a bad plug. plug wire etc etc.
Because you mention going up hill - - I am thinking a float level issue.

Let us know a little more

By spit I mean it makes a noise through the carb. Its not as bad as back fire so there is no explosion of the sort. Its like back fire without the explosion noise and the engine's normal operation gets interrupted like it wants to stall. As for the car it supposedly has had a carb rebuilt and all the spark plug wiring has been changed, the timing advanced a bit and the points set. The Mustang shop here has done the work.
