Hey all, I was wondering if any of you have changed the pawl bushing for the door lock rod (the rod that opens the door when you press the button on the handle) or if anyone has any advice on what the best way to remove an old one and install a new one? Thanks!

If you are not going to re-use it,,you can destroy it to get it out,,cut it with a pair of side cutters, knife or a screwdriver,,,you could melt it with a small flame or soldering tourch,,,heating it up works good, you might try a heat gun first,,,groucho.gif

Are you talking about the lock rod retainer clip? The thing that keeps the rod in place. They have a slot that allows it to compress to snap in place. If you are good, you can squeeze it and pop it back out. Or destroy it as above.

I would make sure I had a new one first. MU #PE639, $3.95 each. I just got 3 of them last week and they were plastic center and metal clip.

Its the bushing type part for which the rod that is activated by the button on the outside door handle to open the door plugs into. I had managed to begin pushing it back out without breaking it but there is no space for me to get it further out without breaking it off into a few pieces or taking apart the whole door lock mechanism. I have the new part already, just looking for some tips if someone had done this replacement before. Thanks.
