My son and I hare brand new and not very mechanical lol. How do the knobs come off the standard AM radio in a mustang. It is rusted so we don't want to ruin it by doing it the wrong way.
then how do we get the radio out?
thanks
If you have the stock 65 radio, then the knobs should just pull off. You should see the retaining nuts that hold the radio to the front of the dash. Remove them as well.
Disconnect the negative battery terminal
Disconnect the antenna lead at the side of the radio
Disconnect the speaker wire lead
Disconnect the radio lead wire. It should be a "quick disconnect" so just pull it apart.
Unbolt the bracket support.
Remove the radio.
The knobs just pull off. Underneath on each side there is a thin nut to remove. There is also a support on the back side held with a sheet metal nut. Removing it will be much more difficult if you have a console and/or A/C installed.
An old trick for pulling knobs is to us like a handkerchief under the knob, wrap it around and pull, the knobs should come right off, its okay to spray them with wd40, also. Good luck.
