Yep, I pulled the 4.2 litter out of my project jeep YJ wrangler (1989) to give it some personality. I was in high school in the 70's, having my midlife crisis, and wanting some V8 power in this gutless jeep in my garage. Pulled out the 4.2, dropped in a rebuilt 289.

Lots of fun, however I have been hooking up new gauges and not sure what RPM's is normal for this engine, the idle, red line, or just normal driving condition. also what should the water temp be at with normal driving condition.

Any Help would be appreciated.

thanks,

Hello alpinevend,
Nothing wrong with a little extra UMPH once in awhile.
Not long ago I helped a friend drop a 350 into a 64 Studebaker Lark Vert.
The guy is in his mid 70's and wanted some more power.
we are dopping a taller gear in his 65 Falcon with a supercharger.

Enjoy the Jeep - -it sounds cool and I would love to see some pictures.

To answer a few of your questions.

1. - The RPM - idle around 625 rpm's
2. - Redline - I would guess around 5800 depending on whet was done to the motor
3. -Temp - depending on the thermostat BUt should run around 180ish.

Gott post some pictures
