Hey everyone, I finally have everything hooked up for my 3 speed manual to c4 auto conversion. However, when I went to start the engine, the starter didn't sound like it was engaging on the ring gear properly. Once I finally got the engine running, it made this very loud winding noise--almost like a buzzing noise. I'm hoping it's the starter and not anything else. When I hooked the tranny up, I made sure the converter seated properly and spun properly after I torqued the nuts. Any suggestions????

Hello Ravishing 11,

I have a 1966 coupe with a 302. I am having a similar issue, but I am curious if the noise is the same. Mine is an ear peircing alarm-like buzzing sound. So loud I am unable to hear anything else. It has happened a few times this last week and happens primerily in the mornings on cold starts. It begins and ends abrubtly, lasting maybe 60 seconds until it just stops or I cut the engine off. Recently adjusted the timing because she is having some issues catching on starts after cooling completely but I can't come up with any reasonable or logical explanation for this terrible sound I'm hearing. Any ideas?

I've never done a conversion on any of my six's, but on V8's, the starter is different between automatic and straight tranny. Look up part numbers for each and see if they match.
