1966 mustang inline 6 starting problems

My 66 inline 6 will not start. The car was running before I removed the carb to be rebuilt. I also removed the dash to replace the dash lights since a few were out. Once I put the carb and dash back on, I tried to start her. I only get a click. I checked the voltage of the battery and it was good, but the battery was older, so I replaced it. I also replaced both the positive and negative cables. I also replaced cable from the solenoid to the starter. I then check cables and the power to the starter, it had power all the way down to the starter. I also checked the negative side and good results. The car would still only click. I stumbled across another thread on this site and where Print Dad said to jump the solenoid by using two screw drivers and making an X with them while touching the ends. The starter turned the engine and she tried to start. So I then replaced the solenoid with a new one, but still it still will not start.

Could it be a bad solenoid or possibly a bad ignition switch/cables?

I think print dad posted that on my thread when my I6 stopped working Haha. There's two other threads going on with someone's I6 not running right now. I suggested a new ignition coil. The same thing happened to mine. I believe a bad solenoid fried my coil. Maybe also try new points and condenser.

Or maybe something was put back wrong on the carburetor so no gas is going through???

William12 is the one having the same problem, maybe check his two threads.

Just some thoughts..

IF you have battery voltage on the + terminal of the starter, and 0 volts one the case of the starter, it should be cranking the engine, there is one catch, the ford starters have a set of contacts inside the hump that start the starter spinning once it is engaged in the flywheel, if this is the case the contacts could be worn out or the flywheel has some burrs or the starter drive (bendix) is chewed up on the end. The solonoid mounting ears need to be grounded this comes from the body ground at the rear of the engine to firewall. Post your results. Good Luck.

Don't ya wish people would follow up on the threads they started? :nono:

Really? It couldn't be Christmas time or anything like that causing someone to be busy with life. That would be insane.

It is the engine gauge harness that is bad. PrintDad and Veronica helped out.
