I have a 1966 Mustang that I recently purchased that will not start. I have replaced the starter and starter selinoid. It will not start with the key, but I can cross the seliniod with a screwdriver and it will turn over a few times, then nothing. The engine had been just put in when I bought it. What can it be? Does the alternator give fire to the switch to turn over? Could wires be crossed?

My first reaction is to suspect the ignition switch as needing replacement. By crossing the solenoid you are bypassing the key/ignition switch.
As to if she's wired correctly, you would have to get a wiring diagram for your year car and follow the wires under your hood to see if she's set up right.:)
