i have a 66 mustang,i am installing new front wheel bearings because the old ones were in a long time,i noticed that the spindle where the outer bearing seats is a little worn and the bearing fits loose, does anyone know if i could center punch the spindle to raise the metal so the bearing will fit snug,or is there another way to do this without changing spindle,i do not have any bluing on the spindle so i do not think the bearing has spun, please help, thanks butch:headscratch:

1966 Worn Spindle

Hello butchd88,
I had never thought of "Loctite", perhaps they have a product.
I wanted to post saying I would NOT hit the spindle.
In theory it sounds like it could work but I think you will cause
problems for yourself.
If the spindle doesn't have bluing I would just pack bearings and leave it alone.

I am not a mechanic just a back-yard hacker but I just don't think trying to expand the spindle shaft is a good idea.

Again just one man's opinion...... Print Dad

Just re-thinking about this problem.
As this is the outer cone, it really shouldn't be locked to the spindle as it is the only means of adjusting the bearing preload.
Also it could make the hub very difficult to remove in the future.
