:waveyOk, had problems earlier with rocker arm not adjusting, reeplaced lifter and pushrods, and later found out that maybe the camshaft is gone. So now I'm in the process of taking the engine apart. I was looking to buy a new camshaft and found couple that fit my specs, but can't figure out what the difference between a flat tapped and roller camshaft would be. My 302 engine is as stock as they come, except for the weiand intake and street avenger holley 4 barrel carb.
Thanks Juan.

So what's the question? What's the differences between a flat tappet and a roller? The difference is performance? Which would be best for your engine?

Hello.:) The difference in ease of installation and expense would lean towards the flat tappet. The roller cam is far more efficient and would certainly perform better. It all depends on what you feel is 'better'.
Denne, when are you going shoo all of those cheerleaders away from your car? They might damage the paint.:gringreen

so what I can read is roller cam would be better for performance while the flat tappet is cheaper but easier to install. Im going to replace the cam and the lifters anyways. If I chose to go with the roller cam what else would I have to change in order for the roller cam to work? My mustang is just used for daily use an not for track or race, would flat tappet cams work well and would they be durable?

There are two types of roller cams. One type uses a hydraulic roller lifter, and the other uses a solid roller lifter. You would want to choose the hydraulic lifter version if you want to go to a roller. Depending on what you have now for springs, retainers, etc. you may get by with buying just the cam and lifters. A solid flat tappet cam would be less expensive, but there is a break in proceedure which must be performed for the cam and lifters to properly wear in.
