I am trying to replace the shifter lever on my 68 and I cant get the old one out. I got the hold down nut off but I dont know how to get it off of the stud. Does anyone know the proceedure of how to replace one of these shift levers?

Replacing the shift lever requires the removal of the pan, valve body and the large nut that holds the lever to the "rooster comb" or park pawl linkage. The small nut on the outside is for the kick-down lever and it must also be removed.
When re-installing the valve body you have to line up the manual valve to the shifter and the kick-down valve to the kick-down lever. It will help if you use some threaded rod and nuts to help hold the valve body while you make all the checks as you get close to tightening it up.

If your talking about the hold-down nut that requires the rubber pulg to be removed first - the shifter should just slide off. Mine was a little tight, but once it wiggled free, it just came off. Try some penetrating oil, maybe give it a bit of a pry with screw driver.
