hello all
i have a 68 mustang, fuel tank will be needing replacement. i recall reading that you can replace 68 16 gallon tank with a 69 20 gallon tank.
is this a possibility?
has anyone completed this conversion ?
is it a drop in replacement ?
thanks for any input...

raf,

Yes, this swap is pretty much a bolt in affair. All the gas tanks from 65 to 70 will drop right in, but the later models are slightly taller to make up for the extra capacity. You may need to bend the filler neck on the tank or cut down your fuel filler tube to get them to line up. Also, you will need to buy the fuel sending unit for the year tank you put in. It all hooks up the same, but if you use the 68 sending unit your gauge will be off. I am dropping a 22 gallon tank for a 70 into my 66 Shelby clone. The top of the new tank will be level with the trunk floor where the spare tire goes. The small loss of trunk space is well worth it to me though.

I'm doing the same thing and all I have left is to bend the fuel filler pipe. Any recomendations on how to bend your fuel filler pipe to match the tank?
