So my 1968 mustang original joint coupler "rag joint" ripped out. I ordered a new polyurethane replacement from Scott Drake. After taking out the old one it appears that I am missing something. The old one is all one piece, the rubber does not come free from the part that attaches to the gear box. How do I attach the new poly coupler?

The rubber *should* come free from the couplers on either side, it's either stuck on there good or someone glued it at some point (however unlikely). Remember to reinstall the horn ground, many people forget to put that back.

The polyurethane is harder and you'll feel the vibrations more through the steering wheel than before with the stock rubber one.
