I am reassembling the dash on a 1970 Boss 302 and I can't figure out where this part goes. Any suggestions? I have looked through the assembly manuals with no luck.

Is there a part # stamped on it anywhere? I can see the date code but the large section of the flat part isn't visible.
It has an "LE" stamped on it and the date code you saw. I was able to figure it out with the help of another forum

I'm glad that you were able to get it identified. You had 3 people that were able to confirm what it was and also post a pic of it installed in a car: Dash Assembly Question | Vintage Mustang Forums (vintage-mustang.com)

Dash trivia: Wikipedia
Originally, the word dashboard applied to a barrier of wood or leather fixed at the front of a horse-drawn carriage or sleigh to protect the driver from mud or other debris "dashed up" (thrown up) by the horses' hooves. (from: Wikipedia)
