I have a question i have a 71 mustang with a 302 in it and i was wondering would i be able to put a 400 in it and have it fit well and not cause me too much trouble? also what would you put under the hood of this car to make it a 10 sec. car and have a round 800-1000 horsepower?

Put you a 351C in it. Hope for 300 horsepower with a good bit of money to spend.

I have a question....
What will the car be used for?
A good maximum power level for the street is about 600 hp
800 to 1000 HP is a great level for an all out drag car.
A typical street car has 1 hp for each cubic inch.
If you install a 460 stroker 500+ cubic inch engine you can get 500 - 650 hp and a fairly reliable engine. At 800 to 1000 hp you will get a lot less than a reliable engine.

most anything will fit in a 71 to 73, but you need deeeep pockets fot 800hp. build a full roller 351C and you will get 400-475hp but it wont be very streetable. as before - what is this car going to be used for?

i agree with PaulS. you will get the most bang for your buck by building a strong 460 motor. a stroker 557ci (460 with a stroker kit) with the proper parts, will make 650-750hp naturally aspirated. have fun keeping it on the ground.

If this helps, I have a 351w. I have spent about 4k on it or so and have about 425-450 hp. To me that is a reasonable amount to pay for a motor that is going to be reliable and very streetable. When you get into the big blocks the parts are inherently more expensive, but you will also get more hp because of the larger ci. Spend your money on the valve train. That is where the real hp comes from.
