1972 Mustang Mach 1 Transmission Issue

1894 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Bob A
I recently purchased a 72 Mach 1 Yesterday as a matter of fact:)
She has been sitting in a garage for the last 3 years.
After draining out the old gas and replacing the battery she started right up first attempt. Sounds amazing lots of care was taken with her.
But my problem is she will not engage in any gear. Shifts fine back and forth but I get no drive. Fluids are clean and advice would be great.

Try changing the fluid and filter in the tranny if that don't fix it then its tear down time.
Check under the car to make sure your shifter is moving the shift rod on the trans. If that's okay, then check the level of your trans fluid. The old C-4 and C-6 transmissions will drop out of gear or seemingly not go into gear if the fluid is low instead of blowing up like the new ones.
The Trans fluid level is high well above the mark. It looks to me like shes not pumping fluid into the Torque Converter.
If you checked the linkage and thats ok, then it's time for a rebuild.
