1985 Mustang SSP running out of power at 2,000rpm

i looked around and couldnt seem to find anything on this.

i have a 1985 sever service package mustang. it has the factory 3.08 gears, stock 5.0 with 4bbl and 5 speed.

when driving it has great power from the start but seems to run out of power around 2,000 rpm. it will keep going right up to 4,000 but it doesnt pull very hard. it does this in all gears.

driving 65 on the highway in 5th it will pull around 3,000 rpm and almost feels like its fighting to stay at that speed. i have checked and it is 3.08 gears in the car for sure.

any ideas on what could be causing this?

Have you done a tune recently......:headscratch:
did plugs, wires, cap, rotor, carb rebuild, oil, filters, and coolant. nothing seemed to improve.

is it possible that it has the wrong 5 speed in it? say out of a 4 cyl fox?
check timing. i had same problem with honda.
hmm never thought of timing, ill have a go at that and see if thats the problem.
