1986 Mustang GT 5 speed, is it worth it if the body is in rough shape?

I found a 86 GT 5 speed for 1000$ but the body has alot of surface rust. Should i just talk him down to like 500 or just not even bother with it?

that depends on how much rust and how good is the drive-train.....

the worst possible scenario it would make a good donor car.....
Its got rust in all the usual places and around the sun roof but i was jsut going to use it as a beater and take out the tranny and clutch assembly and but it im my car, plus he just redid the rear end with 411s and a locker box so thats pretty nice, the engine has not been touched and has about 100 on it so its still up in the air.

The difference is if it's surface rust or rust damage. In other words, if it can be sanded off then it'll be fine. If it's structural damage then it'll depend on if you want to tackle it.
Any running driving 5.0 is worth $750-1000, motor, t-5. 8.8 plus other misc parts, its almost a no brainer, don't try and restore it, as you know you'll be out major $$$$$$$$$$$$$ body work is nuts, unless you do it yourself (and you know what your doing, nothing worse than hacked body work)
the 85/86 mustangs are getting harder to find! and parts for those years are alot of money

That so true, even 6-8 years ago it seemed like a could get an 83-86 gt all day long, When I bought mine 18 months ago it was a serious voyage, just not out there like they once were, people are either holding on to them because they know what they got, or they are jsut dying off
