1987 5.0. does it have a MAFS?

sorry im not that familiar with the 5.0 but i just bought a 1987 5.0 HO motor and i noticed it has no MAFS, is it supposed to? i mean i drove the car the engine was in before he pulled it and sold it, and it ran PERFECTLY and sounded perfect. is this right?

No a 1987 5.0 wont have a mass air flow sensor on it from the factory that began in 1988 and only in California built cars ,all others were 1989 and up

oh boy, thats a releif, i was freaking out thinking this guy sold me an engine thats gonna blow in 100 miles without a MAFS
no problem hope u enjoy your stang also you can add mass air flow to your 87 in the future if you would like :)

so to what extent of modification will i be okay without adding a MAFS?
heads, cam, anything that has to do with money. lol.

but its better to go ahead and convert if plan on doing upgrades down the road.
Mafs 1987

how would i get a MAFS put into my 87 5.0 ho it has a cold air intake, runs perfect i know this year and body does not need it but i found a chip that needs to be wired into it.
wow this is an old thread...

you can go pick a MAFS off a junkyard car, or they sell conversion kits.
