from the factory they are 28 spline but if you dont know the cars history then the answer is No, you'll have to remove the rear cover and count the splines....
1987 Mustang axle spline 28 or 31?
Is there any way to tell whether the axles in the rear end of a 1987 Mustang are 28 spline or 31 spline without pulling the axles. Thanks for the help.

If it's all factory, they're 28 splines. For the 87, 31's would be aftermarkets.
