Hello,My buddy has a 88 5.0 with a vortec s/c kit installed, fmu,fp regulator,MAF conversion with 24lb injectors. He pulled a plug and says that it is red and some white spots on it.his f-p is set at 42psi.Is the stock fuel pump not enough for this setup? He just bought a 255lph and a digital air-fuel meter.I would have to say he is running lean.will the new pump solve this or will he have to get dyno tuned and about how much is it to get dyno tuned? Thanks:headscratch:

I've never seen red before, but you can run a s/c with the stock fuel pump, as long as the pulley is stock size on the crank and the s/c. I can only tell you how much a dyno tune would help that car. At least 40+ hp and it will save you an engine in the long run. I'd say down here a dyno tune for an hour is $100.

ive ran a vortech on my old cobra. He should have the t rex inline fuel pump to help pump the fuel with stock pump. The t rex should have come with the kit. If he doesnt have one, tell him to keep it out of boost till he gets his bigger pump installed, the injectors are fine unless hes running more than 8lbs of boost, if hes running more, he'll need bigger injectors cause the 24s are hardly adequate even for 8lbs. Tell him to keep it out of boost or take the belt off if its too much of a temptation. Take it from me, ive done it, and busting pistons and frying rings, esp after a fresh rebuild like mine is something he doesnt want.

Hey,I checked his plugs and they are not red they are a kinda dark grey.we put the 255 lph walbro pump in last night and he says it still not running right. If we would roll from 60mph me being n/a and him s/c'd I would run with him.It pulls hard 1st,2nd,3rd is ok and so on.He is running it with the pulley that was with the kit so prob 5lb I guess.I told him he should just spend the extra money and go get dyno tuned but he insists on telling me he dont need it once he gets his air-fuel meter hooked up.I told him when it blows I'll buy his cobra r's lol. Thanks for the info.

He has other issues, get it on a dyno and see what he's dealing with.
even with 5lbs and you guys side by side, he should be pulling you quite a bit, but hes only gonna get good boost at higher rpm. Sounds like he needs to get everything set up for his charger, proper plugs, timing, ect, then check his fuel ratios, then maybe have a dyno shop take a look. Most tuners i know wont even put it on there dyno till everything that is suppossed to be installed(and done correctly) is done.
