1988 Mustang GT charcoal box

Happy Memorial Day,

Would anyone know how important the charcoal box is? The out hose from the box goes into the cobra manifold right across from the EGR, by the TB. When I take the hose out from the manifold nipple, it sucks in air and the car seems to idle better, but now its getting air that the MAF isnt reading. I cant get any air exchange from the hoses, and is being blocked by the plug in sensor unit(which I didnt even know was there). Any thoughts on this? Tx.

So the check valve isn't operating? And that hose usually connects to the underside of the upper intake, not at the throttle body. You could take the hose off of the intake, as long as you cover the open port.
Yes, the check valve must be beat. On the cobra, it goes on a nipple across from the EGR.. On the stock it went underneath, but no place for it on the Cobra, which has two less vacuum ports than the stock does...thats what I did at least. Must be a moot point if I dont need it though. Tx Eagle...still cant get the thing to idle right.
