I'm looking to do some suspension upgrades to my 88gt and am not really sure what to be looking for. I've seen different control arms in summit from bbk, ford racing, so on and so forth and am wondering what's going to give the biggest bang for my buck as far as traction goes(60' times are sloooooowwwwww). Any help would be appreciated as well as what other people have done on their Mustangs. Thanks
 
I have Lakewood tracion bars for my lower control arms, and Steeda adjustables for the uppers. The adjustable uppers are totally worth the money.

Can you explain how the adjustable uppers help give better traction. I'm new to playing with suspension parts and am trying to learn what difference the different parts make. Thanks.
 
i got south side machines, which in my opinion are the best, BUT are a pain in the butt to install. need alot of measuring and measuring and measuring (you get the idea), then they get welded to axle brackets... good thing is they are greasable like most new ones are. I believe south side is out of business and summit pick up their patent. these have a steeper angle for better tracktion and you must adjust the pinion angle -2 or so.
 
Just something like a good set of shocks makes a big difference. I put Bilsteins on with the stock springs just to see what they felt like and was a big, good difference. Then put on the ford C springs and another big difference.

If your into drag racing maybe consider drag shocks 70/30s or adjustable shocks. I have not got control arms yet but im planning on maximim motorsports extreme duty LCAs

I just installed uethane sway bar bushings and swear it made a difference :D

My car does not squat and roll then go any more, now it just goes.

What do ya got for shocks and springs?
Remove any weight from under the hood ya can, put the battery in the trunk, close to the right wheel. Did ya already do that?
Get subframe connectors if ya havent already.

carter makes a good point, frame ties are a must, these cars will twist and put your doors out of whack where theyll start leaking. I shaved off more than 1/2sec on 1/8 mile and .2 on 60ft with just lower control arms and less ac/smog.

Depends on how you're going to be driving your Stang. You'll need a different set-up for drag racing where you're only going in a straight line compared to autocross or canyon carving where you'll want it to go fast round corners.

Right now the car has stock suspension and I am leaning towards a good street car and weekend warrior at the drag strip. Shocks are definately a possibility at this point as well as weight reduction. Smog pump has been eliminated as well as the mechanical fan, ac, heater core and so on and so forth. Carpet padding is next to go bye-bye on the list. ALso, does anyone have any ideas on streetable drag radials to purchase? The nitto's look nice but I am also wondering about the goodyear f1's. Thanks.
 
Sounds like you're going for more of a drag-oriented set up so I suggest you start with the following:

1. Keep stock upper/lower control arms but replace the bushings with urethane units.

2. Reinforce the torque boxes.

3. Weld on subframe connectors.

4. Disconnect the front anti-sway bar to aid rearward weight transfer.
