So this week end I finaly got to take my car down the 1/4 mile for the first time, for me and the car. I was told by a few guys not to have my hopes to high. So did some reading to see what some of you guys with the same combo and i was seeing any where from low 12s to high 13s. So to keep my hopes low i was going for mid to low 14s. When we got there it seemed like a really nice night for it (at least I thought but i don't really know lol) the temp was around 70 deg maybe even cooler. and after a few hours and 11 runs the best time i could get was 15.08. but i averaged a 15.4. Now i know it was my first time but I thought my car could do a little better. By the end of the night I was getting off the line with little wheel spin and beating alot of similar cars to the 1/8 mile but between there and the 1/4 I would lose a second on them. So my question is, is it the driver or the car? I will try to post one of my better time slips when i get a chance. But from what I got from the car was that it was a little weak on the top end. If you need any more info just ask. thanks guys

alright here are my best time

reaction----.1988
60ft--------2.212
330ft-------6.2824
1/8th-------9.6877
1/8mph-----73.06mph
1/4---------15.0830
1/4mph-----91.07mph

I should note that my car is not at all set up for drag racing. I was running on street tires (245/45r17). T5 trans, Has maf convertion and the car has not been tuned. 19lb injecters and a slightly larger fuel pump can't remember the size tho. Nothing is ported. Im just curious as to why im this slow? thanks

What were you shifting at?
Could be fuel? Could be timing? Could be valve float?

Are you using the stock valve springs from the GT40's?
I only have the stock tach but i do have a shift light and that is set at 5200 rpm so around there.

I do have the trick flow spring upgrade on the heads. and my timing is set at 10 or 11 deg.
Your 60 ft's stink...if you can get down to a 2.0 or even a 1.9 you should run at least a 14.5...your mph is a little weak too...loosing some top end...i would guess...
Looking at some of the other time slips I have and the people i raced against my 60ft times arn't that bad... I raced a few foxes and my times are either better than theirs or with in .2. but no matter what i would always lose them at the end sometims by a 1 sec. It just doesn't seem like my topend is there.

I would bump the timing a bit a try shifting at 5800 RPM instead of 5200 RPM. Good luck.
Wouldnt turning 5800 rpm be kind of a waist? isn't the cam range 2000 to 5500? but i guess a little more rpm wouldn't hurt...
I think you might need to play with the shift point a bit. Keep in mind that the stock tachometers are often times slow.
alright ill give it a try the next time i get out there which might be a while lol. The track is closed for the year... the snow is commin :mesad:
so i might be next year...
That is the trick with hew parts is that you have to play around with them to see what works for your combo.

Yes your top end is falling off and stock tachs are notorious for being incorrect and they usually read optimistic. Like suggested I would shift a little higher in the rpm range and shift from 1-2 around 5800 and 2-3 5600 or so. Try it out and see how it compares.

And that 60' is okay as a 2.0 would be optimal with street tires.

Ok keep thinking a 2.2 is not bad of a 60ft, a 2.0 is ok...You would need to be in the 1.8's for some good times...Maybe your not making that much power on low end...especially because you said you were not even spinning off the line?...

Also to start hitting 1.7 and 1.8 60' times you will need some sticky rubbers :winks

Ha maybe I could use a set softer tires :bigthumbsup And my low end is fine I could spin through the firs 3 gears if i wanted because there was just no grip lol... The times i was getting I was trying to get minnimal tire spin

I played with my car a little bit last night staying in the gas a little longer and it does still pull so now i just want to go back and try again. :kooky:

LOL...For all i know i can be driving a 13 second turbo mustang....It might have alot of HP doesnt mean it will go good....:D
I'd advance the timing to 13 or 14 degrees with the spout out and put some drag radials on . Got mt's on mine and they are stiiiiiiiiicky.

How do you like your turbo set up? and how much hp and trq are you making? I have been doing alot of reading about the on3 kit and i think i might make it into a winter project... That would really help my time :yup:

What do you think 7lbs would do on my set up?
