I have an 1988 mustang and just got down gutting the air sliencer (wow does that make a difference) and never saw an mass air flow sensor and was wondering if that model year had one, also what kind of lifters the 88's had? Thanks

Nope, no MAF,,, If you look at the firewall, you will see a little black box with a vacuum line attached,,,, That is a MAP sensor. instead of Airflow, it measures Manifold vacuum/pressure. As far as lifters, they're hydraulic, but aren't lifters in a pushrod engine kinda way.

Yep. 88 is still speed-density EFI. It wasn't until 1991 (1990 for Cali. engines) that mass-air was used on the Mustang 2.3L. Gutting the silencer does help quite a bit with these engines. Instead of sucking air through a hole about the size of a half-dollar, it can draw air through a 1.5" hole.
