hi guys
i have a 1989 mustang gt 302 cid,the problem is gas milage,iam getting about 11 miles to the gallon, ouch . i bought this car from my brother .he put on headers ,no cat exhaust, and a computer chip,no idea what kind of chip.so i dont know what to set the timing to. this is my 1st ford car , chevy guy here, sorry lol this mustang is going to be my sons . i need any ideas on how to set the timing with a chip, and any other gas milage improvement you guys might have. thanks

I don't think you can set the timing with the chip. I think you're going to have to get a timing light and adjust the distributor. Now the 4.6's can be changed with a tune because it got rid of the distributor. Good luck.

You have to know if it has a custom chip, the settings it has is based off of a predetermined base timing set, usually the stock 10 degrees. If you go and mess with the distributor to change the timing, it'll throw the chip's settings off and could cause problems such as detonation or running hot due to too much timing. In other words, if it has a custom chip you best leave the distributor alone.
There's gas mileage tips you can use but need more info about the car such as gears, transmission, any other mods it may have.

the car almost completely stock except it has a no cat exhaust system with headers . its a automatic transmission with overdrive it also has the performance chip of which i have no idea what kind .thanks on the gas milage tips, i can really use any help in improving it
