1989 Mustang lx 5.0 - front brake upgrade question

1217 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  EagleAutosports
hi all. In the next few weeks, I will be installing my SSBC rear disc brake kit. At the same time, I want to upgrade my front.

I'm leaning towards the 91 Mark VII 73mm Calipers, but haven't committed yet. I'm also thinking of stainless steel lines, and a new rotor.

My question(s) are:

Does using a MVII caliper require new rotors? If so, am I limited to size (i.e. diameter)?

Would the SVO caliper be better? What about from newer mustangs, any direct bolt on's?

Slotted, cross drilled, or what?

Thanks guys.

Same rotor. Can't increase or decrease the diameter either.

SN95 spindles/hubs, calipers, and rotors have to be used together.

No on a rotor with any lateral holes. Slotted are OK but aren't really necessary for anything but wet weather driving.
thanks foxchassis, I appreciate the feedback...I read a lot about calipers, but no real mention on rotor sizes, etc...so now I have a clearer idea on what to get.
Sounds good to me, I agree on no drilled rotors. They tend to get stress cracks between the holes, slotted still maintains some structural integrity.
