Hey all. I was wondering if anyone has ever had their windshield wipers make a horrible almost screeching sound. They move smooth and at the speed selected with no problem but there is a weird almost wheeeewheeewheee sound that sounds just short of a metallic screeching sound. It's godawful loud and can't be right. Just wondering if anyone else has had this and if it's a common problem with an easy fix or if i need to start digging into it. thanks for the help yall.

Can you tell if it's under the hood, or under the cowl below the windshield? The arms might be rusty and need lubrication.

It sounds like it's coming from under the cowl. Everything that I can see without taking anything apart looks fine though. I'm thinking it's probably just a lubrication thing. Seems like everything else is working as it should. I just got the car from the proverbial little old man and have been working hard to take care of all the things he negleted. I was kinda hoping somebody had crossed this bridge before...LOL. I haven't even picked up the manual yet so I'm not sure if there is two motors in there or one with a linkage of some sort. I'm thinking that it sounds like maybe a linkage that isn't lubed up or a little rusted. Anyway, any help or info would be much appreciated......Thanks ya'll.

The Arms/Transmisson that go to the wiper motor do have dry berings that may be rusted. They are real easy to get to once you take the cowl off.
The drive shaft on the wiper MAY be rusted as well, mine was rusted fast when i got the car, had to replace the motor.
Your problem sounds like a few squirts of silicon on the pivit point of the wiper trans arm joint or the shaft where the wipers mount.
Only other time ive had that, the end of one of the wipers was scratching the window, but if that was it you would see/know forsure.

I got a 90 lx and I had the terrible sound also It was so loud lol. What made it worse I bought my stang with no radio so it was really loud I just replaced the motor on the drivers side under the hood might of gotten away with some wd40 or something but someone gave me the motor for free.
