That NSS (Neutral safety switch) has always confused me too. See what some members have to say.....going from a manuel to an auto may require a computer change...you probably have an A9L. A9P's came with the AOD's, and have a O2 sensor wiring difference. Go to top of page and do a search on it..always good info on this site.

Yeah, it's probably because of the nuetral safety switch. I don't know if your harness will plug into the neutral safety switch(it has 4 prongs facing up-driver side top of trans) on the trans because it was for a manual-you may need to replace that section of harness with one from an automatic(junkyard or Ebay). In the world of computers swapping a manual for an auto isn't that straight forward.

the neautal safety is screwed into the tranny on the driver side, it also is the switch for the reverse lights,it plays two rolls. you will need the
A9P computor for the auto. now your car should crank because the safety switch on the auto is not hooked up, but im sure the switch from the manual is in the open position because all you did was remove the pedal without compensating for it. if you close that circuit the motor will crank. you will still have to address the comp, and you will have to wire the automatics safety/reverse light switch.

you cant get to the switch through the boot, but its easy enough to get to from the driver side under the car,it has a 4 wire connector on it you will see it right away, above the shift cable. the 9ap had a different spark curve and a few other differences that escape me right now, but if your car is running fine, especially at idle i would not sweat it.ford installed the 9ap in the auto and the 9al in the stick and sometimes you found the 9al in the auto from the factory but not before it was retuned by ford and this was when they would actually run out of 9aps, the 9ap on the other hand would work fine in the stick without any retune required.
