If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it. I have a 1990 mustang with a 302 bored .030 over. Edelbrock style intake, larger throttle body, B 303 cam, gt 40 heads and some other mods. I bought this car as is so with the specifics I'm still figuring out. Anyways here's the issue. The idle will sparaticly jump to right around 2000 rpms and stay there until I kick the key to the off position really fast without letting it stall and then rengauge it back to the on position then the idle will return to normal. It also while at idle will smell horrible like its running ritch but when the idle jumps up the headers will start glowing red on the back two exhaust ports of either side like its running lean. I have tried changing the IAC and the EGR valve and I am still having the same problem.
Got any ideas??? Thanks for the help

Pull the codes, then post your results back on here.
A few things would cause symptoms similiar to this, including timing and uncalibrated sensors, which the computer will be able to tell you.
