Cable sounds stripped or the back of the cluster. DIdi you check the gear in the trans? Just pull the cable out of the trans and look at the gear. But usualy the noise is the cable.
1990 Mustang LX with AOD Speedo goes crazy and it's not my speedometer, what is it?
My speedometer goes crazy when I drive and e 45 it makes a weird nose from behind the gauge cluster. What piece do I need to replace to make it function properly? I already tried a new speedometer no go, it's a 90 Lx 5.0 AOD

Wow well my post makes almost no sense and i can't figure out how the hell you edit post on this forum. Anyways yes i tried to replace the Speedometer Gear in the tranny but i didnt do it personally i had it done when my tranny was just rebuilt, he said that it didnt work at all. I believe the problem is coming from behind the guage cluster but does this mean i need to replace the whole guage cluster or is their a certain piece i need?
first i would try to pull the cluster out and pull the cable off then lube the cable up with wd try that if not i would get a new cluster
