What is pinging when changing the timing in your car? I went to the track and a guy said he would help me bump it a lil, not sure exactly how much it was (should find out) but I want to know what the symptoms...Thanks

Pinging is when you've advanced it too far. You'll physically hear the pinging when its happening. Don't let it ping for too long. :nono:
I dont know what the pinging sound would be...that's what im trying to figure out...the car runs good...but i'm not suee if its noticeable or if its just something really small that I gotta pay attention to...
Get going about 25MPH in fourth gear, them floor it, it will almost sound metallic sounding. Like ting ting sound
aight thanks guys, I'll try that.
It'll sound like rocks in a coffee can. Listen to mid 80s Oldmobiles and Cadillacs as they go by, they usually have pinging. It's also called detonation and you don't hear it until it's already bad.
