1991 Mustang GT Rear wheel seal/ axle bearing

I'm having a bit of trouble with my rear wheel seals. Actually its just the one. I removed the drum to check brakes and my drivers side brake was covered in gear oil. (a little happy to have another excuse to start wrenching again ) I then checked the other side and it was fine. Next step, i took out the axles to get a look at the bearings. I then went to partsource and bought a wheel seal, which neither side of my axles had. The bearings are flush with the axle housing, leaving no room for these new seals. Using a slide hammer i took out the leaking bearing and replaced that with a new one and tried that out seeing as how the other side wasn't leaking with no seal. Didn't work out (leaked oil all over my brand new wheels first time i drove em, silly car) So here I am, bearings flush in the housing, against the taper inside, no room for these seals, and the one side is leaking. Has anyone experienced anything similar or know what to do? I'm thinking the bearings have to be the wrong size. Any advice is appreciated.

i've been thinking about this all day. either the bearing is not going in all the way or wrong bearing. did you compare the new bearing with old? the bearing should go in far enough for the seal to go in on the outside. :bigthumbsup
I've been working on it all day. I went to ford to see what bearings they pulled off their shelf and they were a lot different then the ones i got from partsource. Different as in the right ones. They were a lot skinnier which allowed me to punch them back into the housing and fit the seal.

I'm sick of fixing all these micky mouse repair jobs. The pervious owner should be embarassed for some of the things he has done to this car. He used the wrong bearings, and sealed them with silicone :nono::nono: I was a bit choked.

I'm still not sure if its 100% yet, i took her for a spin and it worked fine, no leaking yet. I'll know by tomorrow:)
