Idle is stead most of the time especially on hot days but still tends to bounce up and down about 500 rpms. My first step is gona bet to clean the MAF sensor. I just recently replaced the wires and coil cause i had missfire from two of my wires resting on the headers. Thinking this might have also somewhat damaged my pickup in the distributor. Not sure if they're all electrically connectted or not.

As for the timing, can't seem to get it right. around 12 deg right now

do you have your a/c on? when the compressor is cycling it could bog your idle down a bit

Cleaning the mass air element wouldn't hurt, see if it helps.
I doubt it's the pickup, if it was malfunctioning you'd see the tach jump up and down (upwards of 5000-7000 rpm on the tach) when trying to crank it or it would cut off while you're driving.
