My factory balancer on my LX 5.0 is starting to wobble, and I'm pretty sure that the outer ring on the balancer is about to exit stage left, so it seems to be time to replace the old part.

I've decided that while my car is mostly stock, I would like a beefier balancer, as I tend to drive the car pretty hard.

I would like to spend around $200 for an SFI approved balancer, and found a couple of them made by Pioneer Automotive that fit both my perceived needs (a beefier part than stock) and my budget.

Which one do I need, the 28oz or the 50? This will be bolted onto a more or less stock 93 5.0 HO.
 
Exactly what Stock said.

I use that balancer and so far so good.

Okay, I ordered up 872030, and now here comes a captain obvious question.

Will I need a puller to remove my old one? Of all the specialty tools that I have, I don't have a generic balancer puller. Due to previous Chrysler ownership, I DO have that one, and I suspect that it would be just about useless for a Ford application.

Agree with everyone else. Stock is 50 OZ.

And as far as a puller, we had to buy one to remove our stock balancer.

We have an Harbor Freight in our town, and there's worked fine for us. It's a universal puller, and it only cost 12.99. It's not the best in the world, but it gets the job done easily.
 
rent one from AutoZone for free.
^ That's what I have always done :bigthumbsup

While you're at it, make sure to pick up an installer tool as well. Sometimes you can just install them with the bolt, but that's a great way to destroy the threads on the crank :nono:
