1994 Mustang Gt vs 1999 Z-28 Camaro?

Ok so long story short, I have a 1994 Mustang GT 5.0, AODE. A friend just got a 1999 Z-28 Camaro, LS1 Auto. The crap talking begins immediately on both sides. :)

We haven't been to the track together yet, but he went last weekend and ran 8.9 in the 1/8th stock. Not sure of trap speed. My last time at the track was well over a year ago, and with a 3.27 gear, CAI, headers and mufflers, I ran 9.44 @76 on the same track.

Since then I have rebuilt my engine, added ported '69 351 heads, B303 Cam, matching springs, SV0 1.72 rockers, Pro Products Typhoon intake, BBK 70mm TB, Equal legnth headers, 2.5" off road x-pipe, C&L 76mm MAF, 24lb injectors, 255lph pump, MSD 6AL 3.73 gears, and alot stickier back tires. I havent had it tuned yet but it runs pretty good as is.

Were supposed to meet at the track this weekend. What do you guys think? Hes wanting to bet money and Id like to have a second opinion before I run my mouth to much :)

So who wins?

Assuming both cars are mechanically sound, both drivers are equal, and tires are equal, he will win. Hands down.
yeah, you kinda wasted your money..Trick Flow or AFR heads are the key to the power for Ford small blocks...
A good reaction time and traction might keep you close, be safe
What's in the Z28??If he is bone stock,it should be interesting? But the Ls1 motor is sick, I just can't go against it!!!!There freaking real fast!!In his WS6 firebird. The AOD is going to kill you, I think??Don't talk ****!!Just make it fun!! I have the same year GT 5speed less bolt ons than you.But I wouldn't even waste my time.

If you upgraded to 3.73 and have sticky tires (what kind) then you might have a chance. I would love to know what you ran last time like your 60'. I think you might have a chance and ported 351 heads........hhhhmmmmm.

Good luck and practice as the first 60' is where the race is won.

You need a shift kit.

My car can hang with LT1 camaros....but the LS1 is a beast.
Really? So chevy for the win hands down? I know the Ls1s are fast but I figured I would pick up at least a half a second for all the stuff I've done. Also. I forgot to mention my trans was rebuilt with 4r70w gears and a transgo shift kit, I have aluminum driveshaft, and nitto nt555.

His car is bone stock 180k miles, and cheap tires.

Still a chevy win?

If you can manage a 1.8-1.9 second 60 ft. time I think you might have him.
You'll have his ass off the line but he will soon catch up and pass you. Don't bet just race him and hope he has a ****** start
You have a real good chance as long as you can plant that power you will win.

So me a favor bet ten on it from me.
Drop a couple hundred on a nitrous kit off Ebay. Hit it with a 100 shot and go win some $$$. :bigthumbsup

If your friend's Z28 is still stock, it's too close to call and I think it'll ultimately come down to the reaction time of the driver.

I learned some interesting news yesterday. The Camaro is on its second motor. Apparently he bought the car from his uncle, who blew up the first motor with nitrous. He said he bought a used Ls1 from a shop and had it installed for $1200 and the nitrous set up. I thought that was kind of cheap for an LS1.

Looking at the motor I noticed its an iron block with aluminum heads. I thought the LS1s were all aluminum. Is it possible that its a 5.3 truck motor? Will one of those swap into a Camaro?

You're right, LS' are aluminum block engines. Maybe it's an LT1?
It could be anything; 4.8, 5.3, or 6.0L they all look the same from the outside. If its a 4.8 or 5.3L you have a good chance of victory. If its a 6.0L then you will probably get smoked.
We called the shop that installed it, and turns out its a 5.3 from a '00 z71. Race has been postponed anyway, both of us have things we need to work on. I developed a miss and some rocker arm noise on the way home from work today. Ill be posting in the tech section.

Btw, he got a cold air intake and new rims and tires now to. still cheap tires tho. :)

You should have him in the top end since he has a truck motor.

The OP already said the LS1 blew up from to much nitrous. They used the 5.3L truck engine because they are half the price of an LS1 and still run pretty good. The 5.3L may not have as much HP in stock trim but it responds just as well to mods and is just as bullet proof than the LS1; maybe more since it has a cast iron block.

but wouldn't it take more work than its worth to transplant a 5.3L into a camaro than just putting a stock LS1 in it? I mean, think of all the electronics issues of just getting it to run right?
