Hey guys,

I am new to the forum, and have yet to own a mustang in my short history of car owning. I am 20 and looking for a new car. There is a 95 Mustang on the Craigslist for my city, but the owner says it is only shifting into first and second. He did not specify as to manual or automatic. I was wondering what the best and worst case scenario for this is. Is this the car for me?

Best case - mis adjusted clutch cable or auto linkage. Worst case - trans needs rebuilt.

I would not get it unless these 3 are met:
A: is in otherwise great shape
B: you can get it real cheap like $500.
C: you and your buddy or dad can do a trans swap yourselves

The auto trans in 94s and 95s are real POS. Had the worst rating in consumer reports even back in 2000 before I bought my 95. My own 95s auto trans went out. My own 94s auto trans went out too. There constantly threads on here about auto trans failures those years. Also 94 95 headgaskets always blow. Ford even got sued for them.96+ cars Ford fixed those issues.

A used trans costs around $400. Labor to swap trans will cost about another $400.
