I have a 1995 mustang v6.

I'm going to be 18 soon. This is my first car, and Ive had it for a few years. Over time Ive put in a new jasper engine (stayed with the v6), did some body work, new paint, tires, brakes, exhaust, intake...just some stuff like that. I plan on hanging onto this car for a while.. but i really want a stick car.

Would it be worth it to get a new transmission and go through all of the trouble from going automatic to manual?

What would I need?
Are there kits that come with everything I need?
How much would it cost?
How long would it take?

I used to have an SN-95. It was a 1996 Deep Violet V6. Actually, it was my last Mustang before I got my s197. Anyway, in my opinion, don't bother changing your tranny, unless you plan to invest a lot of money into this car. If you plan on turning this car into a showpiece, and making it collectible-then go ahead. If its a daily driver, don't waste your time. As I'm sure you know, a new transmission will cost you anywhere from 2-4 thousand dollars. Close to the blue book value of the car in good, stock condition. The SN-95 seemed to have a problem with leaky transmission, as it went up in years. Check under the car and locate your oil pan. If you see a oil like liquid surrounding the nuts that holds your oil pan in place...that's transmission fluid. You want to immediately take it to a serviceperson (or attempt to do it yourself, but I don't recommend "do it yourselfs" on trannys) and get the transmission filter changed, and your fluid replaced. Proper maintenance like this will result in your tranny lasting a long time. As far as changing to manual...why? You already have a 5-speed transmission. If its for performance, there are other ways to more efficiently improve the performance of a V6, and I'm sure you know what they are. My SN-95 was a strong and reliable car, but she was hitting 97k-so I had to part with her. tranny question

There is a company in arizona that deals with this. ampperformance.com. the specialize in Mustangs only, and one of their big things is swapping auto's to manual. They have a complete kit with a rebuilt T-5, i do believe they are all rebuilt, but it is a complete kit to swap from auto to manual for about $1,800. I'[m not sure that would work on the 6-cylinder, but it doesn't hurt to check. It also depends on how long you want to keep the car and how much your willing to invest in it and what your overall intentions are. You may very well be better off just staying with the auto
