I have a 1998 v6 Mustang with about 180 000 miles on it and i feel it is time for a new engine. I have been thinking about slappin a 5.0 engine in it from a working 5.0 that my friend owns in a yard for about 1000 for whole car and part it out when im done. I know a 5.0 in it wont pass smog but it dont matter to me. can someone tell me if this is just a horrible idea or not. Any suggestions?

I recently put true duel exausts in my car. im looking for the next steps to make my car into a racecar. i have about 2000$ willing currently to use

If you put the 5.0 in there, i would look for a 94-95 Mustang GT 5.0 engine, you'll also need a 94-95 k memeber, wiring, computer and the whole engine setup, the tranny, drive shaft, it's stock exhaust or aftermarket mid pipe and probably the catback and might as well pull the 8.8 rear end out and swap that too.
$2K to make your sixer into a race car will be hard to to. go to www.supersixmotorsports.com and check out their stuff. They have some hardcore sixers so they know what they are doing.:bigthumbsup

With that kind of mileage he needs a rebuild before he could start to think about doing anything to the engine performance wise. Go for a 4.6L over a 5.0, it will be an easier swap. Why not just swap in a split-port V6 with some upgrades? It will be just as fast as the 5.0 for the same amount of money and less headache.
