It's my 1st American-made car in 35 years, just bought for my 16 year old son: a 1998 Mustang Coupe 2D 3.8L V6 automatic SFI, with 69K miles!

What brings me to the Mustang Forum are insurance quandries. Even without adding my son as a driver to our policy, my company wants $178 a month for collision insurance. Seems outrageous!

Yes, but he's NOT on our insurance, he's insured elsewhere, and not identified as the primary driver. This charge is for the car alone. Do insurance companies charge more for 2 doors than for 4? Isn't V-6 supposed to be cheaper than V-8?

Depending on what state you're in, just having him in the household can be enough to drive your rates that high.

Still seems like a lot, my 2010 GT was only $98 a month for full coverage when I had it and I was 25 at the time. When I was 16 I had state minimum on my Camaro for $89 a month.
