i have a 1999 mustang GT that i bought with a blown motor. I found a 4.6 SOHC Romeo engine out of a 2002 with 70k to swap in. I did the swap in August of 2011 and everything was fine. after driving for a while i noticed that the traction control would bog the engine out from just making a turn to accelerating so i just starting turning off the traction control every time and everything was fine. in the back of my mind i still remembered that it was still unusual that the traction control was coming on with daily driving. Over the weekend i was having some fun and raced a ss camaro. I was with him the whole time till i hit 120 and at 3700 rpm's i was limited or governed and i knew it had much more. it felt as if the fuel pumps just cut off fuel to the engine and i was pissed that i had to look at the taillights of the camaro. :banghead: After some research on OBDTester: OBD-2 Diagnostic software and interfaces i saw that there was an update for my current cpm/ecu firmware. my (HJX3)---- (XR3F-12A650-ABD)---(MLC-462A)......on the site it stated that the hardware type was supposed to be (MLC-462) and it didn't have the (A)......i don't know if that is good or bad... but the site also told me that there was an update to a (XU7A-12A650-ACA) which is a (XUG0) with the same hardware type of (MLC-462)......now i was just going to purchase a SCT X3 which would allow me to raise the top speed of the car and deal with the traction control but i was wondering if i would jus be able to take it to FORD and have them update my cpm for free.
Any help would be appreciated i don't know what way i should go or what i should do?

i am a tech at a ford dealership, we can do pcm updates but they are not free i know they pay me an hour of labor and i think our labor rate is 90/hr so it would be about 96 bucks after tax but that could change a little from dealer to dealer.

i wonder if it would be worth paying the $96 dollars or so to update the pcm when I'm gonna end up buying the SCT tuner anyway which would probably get rid of my problem anyway. so i could just put that money towards a tuner.

when will you ever return to stock? The tunes you will get will be based of of the most recent firmware anyways so why waste 100 bucks at the dealer.

i know thats what i mean i don't want to waste the money if I can just fix it with the tune. I was just thinking there might be something wrong with my current pcm which would explain the problem with the traction control and the 120mph limit because i had another 1999 gt and that one was not limited at 120. so what I'm saying is that i don't know if it would make things worse if i tuned it on the current hjx3 pcm (since when they make tunes for the car they ask for that code so they can make proper tunes) I wondering if the pcm in my car is the correct one.
i guess the best thing to do is just try the tuner and go from there. i can always revert back to the stock tune later.

the car should have a 115 mph governer, from the factory so the other care you had may have already had a tune to remove the limiter.

seriously??? my 00 GT Vert topped out at 120.... driving on the 405 freeway in LA to the OC at 2am (very little amount of other vehicles) and 120 seemed to be the limit for mine too... so it is the computer that is governed and a simple tune from the SCT will change the limiter?

yup its governed at 115 on v6 120 on a GT as far as i know, a custom tune removes the speed limiter letting you go as fast as the car can, first highway run after the run on my 6 i hit about 130.-not safe at all to do however and id suggest going to the track to test it, im just lucky i didnt pass cops and there was no traffic.
