To start, I need to do a little more work/research on why my 1990 2.3 cooling fan doesn't work...based on mileage of 134k, didn't see spending twenty ish on a coolant temp sensor and sending unit as a waste. Jumped the fan with 12V and it ran smooth

Still, the radiator fan or A/C won't work, and it's cold enough here in OH that it doesn't matter, plus this isn't a daily driver, so not in a big rush. The crap frozen lock actuators won't let us in but through the hatch (imagine a notch with frozen actuators ! Ugh)

We grabbed an '88 TRW module from the yard from our T-5 donor for free. Didn't really inspect it, just plugged it in for the hell of it. Not completing our due diligence, no surprise... No fan.

Reading the fail rate of these fan controls, I want to go with MG Mans external relay modifaction. Then, after comparing pics of ours to his, I'm clueless. The pics are out of our 90, and is an unmolested car to the best of our knowledge. This board looks nothing like his, plus nothing looks burnt to indicate excessive draw. Figure maybe I could bypass the board, but don't want to cut wires etc. from the harness. Just putting it out there...we have the luxury of time, and will be sure to update what we've learned. Damn lucky to have the AFM

TRW Module Photos by mgman75 | Photobucket
Someone maybe even Ford put a differant one. I notice yours seems to plug in same and has 2 relays like the TRW. Notice in my wiring diagram the color of the wires. Is yours the same. If so check for power at the wires indicated. Also to check the sensor just pull of the wire and ground to metal somewhere. That is all the sensor does when gets up to temp. If fan comes one either car is not hot enough or it is bad.
Second does the fan come one with AC control? Now unsure if system has to have freon it to work.
Thanks for reminding me. I guess I need to make sticky out of this problem on the 2.3. Maurice

As for TRW control, that is the one originally installed. I pulled one from a yard and just plugged it in without looking in it, except to see the except to see the contacts weren't burnt. I figure I'll check the control in it, then go back to square 1, since all I ever did was throw parts at it lol. The A/C has never come on since I bought the car last Sept. The compressor is a Sanden SD-709 for R134. I pressed one of the valves and can definitely tell there is pressure. The clutch has only one red wire going to it. I ass-ume this compressor uses the bracket as ground.

Check voltage to it. Even if ac is dead etc. The cooling fan section will work if everything is proper. Maurice
