2.3L motor bolt pattern issues

So I blew up my engine because my gages were off so even though I was leaking oil it said it was all good. Also I overheated my engine.
So we are replacing it. I have an 88 LX manual, however we are having a problem finding an engine because of the bold pattern? I guess my car has an odd one so we can't throw any old 4 banger in there.
I'm not too sure what that means. I would assume that means it's an issue hooking it up with the tranny?

So if anyone could enlighten me and give me some advice, I would greatly appreciate it!

there all the same bolt pattern
What about motor mounts? Could that be it?
the motor mount and the bell housing mounts are all the same

Totally correct and 100% accurate answer. As far as i know the blocks are identical except the DUELIE. I think one bolt hole is missing on the alt bracket. But it can be drilled and tapped very easily. Some guys just leave it as is.
Hmmm...maybe that's what I have...I am told it's an issue with how the engine fits in so I really have no idea...
The engines that will fit are the "2.3 Lima" if yours is a 4 plug engine or 8 plug stay with whatever you got. Wiring changes between would be problematic. List of vehicles are here just notice section 2.3 Lima section. Maurice

It's the "Any old 4-banger" part that's getting you in trouble.

There's only one direct replacement and just as Maurice posted, it's the 2.3 Lima motor. Any Lima bottom end will work and you can transfer the head and everything else for a fairly easy swap.
