2000 Mustang Gt Ticking Noise Only under Load

Hey guys, I recently got my 2000 Mustang GT (5 speed) out of storage from the winter, and I now notice a ticking noise under load most noticeably in 1st and 2nd gear above 2.5k rpm (Does not make the noise on Deceleration). The Car is near stock besides a new CAI, Muffler Delete, and Stage 2 Clutch. The ticking is consistent to a certain rpm range, seems like it speeds up with rpm as well. I cant hear it at idle, nor can i rev it in neutral to mimic it. Also it seems like the sound dies off after a certain rpm. I was told to change the oil with 5w-20 so I did right before storing it, but now that i have a owners manual it says I should be putting in 5w30? From what I've researched everyone is saying Lash adjusters, Head Tick, Piston Slap, and possible exhaust leak. Also I heard that 2V mustangs are known for being noisy, but ever since I put on the CAI the ticking seems to be more pronounced. Cant seem to find a solution... Anyone's help is much appreciated thanks guys.

It could be anything that you described. Do you have a video?

If it is more pronounced under load my guess would be an exhaust leak as those tend to be more pronounced under higher cylinder pressures (load).

How many miles?

Most of us on here run 5w30, 6-6.5 qts FWIW...

128000 miles, car has the mufflers cut out, there is a definite exhaust leak between mid pipe and "cat-back" it leaks water out of that spot. I just changed my oil and I found glitter in the filter. Is that normal?
and I'll post a video soon.

That is definitely not normal. It sounds like you have a head gasket failing with gilltter in the oil and water coming out of the exhaust. sos.gif

MinnStang96 have you gotten anywhere on this problem. I also have a 2000 gt and it is making the same ticking noise. sounds exactly as you described. I just had my exhaust worked on. took it back and the mechanic check for exhaust leaks and he did not find any. He was thinking lifter. I just switched to full synthetic and did not see any glitter with the last oil change. Any Ideas????
